How to Prepare for a Panel Interview

Panel interviews can be daunting but with the right preparation, you can confidently showcase your qualifications and make a positive impression.

Start by researching the company and the interview panel members. Familiarise yourself with the organisation’s values, mission and recent developments. If you know the names of the panel members, look them upon LinkedIn or the company website to understand their roles and backgrounds. This knowledge can help you tailor your responses and build rapport during the interview.

Prepare your answers to common interview questions. Focus on highlighting your key skills, experience and accomplishments. Use the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to structure your responses and provide concrete examples that demonstrate your capabilities. Practice your answers out loud to ensure you articulate them clearly and confidently.

It's also essential to prepare questions for the panel. Asking insightful questions shows your interest in the role and the company. Consider asking about the team dynamics, company culture and future projects. Tailor your questions based on the research you’ve done on the panel members’ roles and responsibilities.

During the interview, address each panel member by name and make eye contact. Distribute your attention evenly to engage with the entire panel. Listen carefully to each question and take a moment to gather your thoughts before responding. It's okay to ask for clarification if you don’t understand a question.

Manage your nerves by practising mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing. Stay positive and composed, even if faced with challenging questions. Remember, the panel is interested in getting to know you and assessing your fit for the role, so be yourself and let your personality shine through.

By thoroughly preparing and approaching the panel interview with confidence and poise, you can effectively demonstrate your qualifications, experience and skills, and make a strong case for your candidacy.
